    This 14 day tour can be reversed starting either from Hanoi, Vietnam or Luang Prabang, or Pakse, Laos. Tour prices are subject to change depending on the flight schedule.



    Upon arrival to Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat International Airport) you will be picked up and transferred by private car through the city to your hotel for check-in (hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in). The buzzing southern city, formerly known as Saigon, is a tantalizing mix of old and new. Free and easy.

    A full day city tour takes in Cholon, the Chinatown district, to discover the area’s markets, shops and the Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda - dedicated to the goddess of the Sea. Visit Vietnam's first traditional medicine museum, the FITO Museum, with an amazing collection of 3,000 items relevant to the development of traditional Vietnamese medicine. Implements used to prepare indigenous herbs and objects commonly found in traditional pharmacies can be seen in the galleries as well as ancient books and documents on traditional Vietnamese medicine. Head back to the city centre to visit Ben Thanh Market where an incredible display of fresh produce is offered. Simply stroll through the market exploring the variety of goods for sale.

    This afternoon visit the War Remnants where exhibition halls display imagery of both the French and 'American' wars or History Museum (choose which one you would most like to see) and the Reunification Hall, formerly known as the former Presidential Palace it was towards this modern building that North Vietnamese tanks seized on the morning of April 30 1975, as Saigon fell. This fascinating building is filled with history still fresh in the minds of many.

    Stroll (your vehicle will be available at all times) to the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), Continental Hotel, Opera House and City Hall. At the end of the afternoon head back to your hotel.

    Leave Ho Chi Minh City at 8h00, enjoy the scenic journey along the National Highway bordered by green rice fields. On arrival at My Tho, visit Vinh Trang pagoda, then heading to My Tho boat station where you will board the local boat for a cruise among the aptly named Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle and Phoenix Islands. Enjoy a leisurely boat ride along Tien river, view stilt houses, fruit plantations and fishing villages along the river bank. Continue on a smaller rowing boat for a more adventurous cruise on the Xep Canal which is set amongst a forest of palm trees.

    After the boat trip, take a ride on a horse driven cart along country roads to the famed garden for a honey tasting session. Enjoy seasonal fruit & honey tea to the sound of "Southern Vietnamese folk music", performed by the locals. Keep cruising on a hand-rowed sampan under the shade of the water coconut trees along natural canals. Embark once more by boat to Turtle Island then visit a family business which epitomizes the idyllic rural lifestyle, taste delicious coconut candy & observe the pastoral life as you roam through fruit plantations and villages. Lunch will be served with a selection of Mekong delicacies. 

    After lunch have a short cycling tour (if time permitted) then back to the boat station where you will be picked up and transferred to Can Tho. Check in on arrival. Free time to visit bustling Can Tho market.

    After breakfast, we take a leisurely boat trip to explore the picturesque tributaries of the Lower Mekong river (Bassac River), then proceed to visit Cai Rang floating market (& Phong Dien is optional), which are the liveliest in the whole religion.

    Have you ever tasted Vietnamese vermicelli soup? Well, now go and see how it is made. Then wander around the village and meet the friendly local people and experience how to cross a "Monkey bridge" which is built by only one stem of bamboo. Visit the orchard garden and stop for lunch.

    On the way back to Ho Chi Minh City the last stop is to see how incense sticks are made (optional visit to Mangrove forest which was a former Viet Cong base used by the guerillas during the War can be arranged on request).  Arrive in Ho Chi Minh at around 17h00.

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport for two hour flight to Hanoi. On arrival in Hanoi, your guide will greet you and accompany you to the hotel for check-in.

    Have lunch at the KOTO restaurant which is part of a program where street children can learn hospitality skills that will enable them to find employment. You can rest assured you are helping to improve lives as you eat your lunch today!

    After lunch and break visit the Temple of Literature - Vietnam's first university, also referred to as Van Mieu, was established within a temple to educate Vietnam's royalty, mandarins and members of the elite. The university functioned for an incredible 700 years and its gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam's past.

    Next enjoy a relaxing cyclo* tour through the ancient "36 Streets" to discover amazing selection of shops in the Old Quarter; silk, silver, enamel bracelets and embroidery are among the best buys and the street names bear testimony to the business conducted there; Silk Street, Rice Street, Vermicelli Street, and even Boiled Fish Street! Some of the galleries boast the works of painters from all over Vietnam.

    * “Cyclo" is three wheeled rickshaws, operated by pedal-power, with a seat attached to the front.

    This evening you’ll make a visit to one of the water-puppet theatres to enjoy a performance of this fantastic art form - unique to Vietnam and best seen in Hanoi.
    Return to your hotel where the full day trip ends.

    Following breakfast leave Hanoi for a 3hr30mins drive to Halong Bay including a 20-minutes stop on the way. Arrive at your jetty in Halong City towards noon and proceed with check-in formalities. After your welcome onboard, a lunch will be served while cruising towards the bay itself.

    In the afternoon, enjoy some visits and/or activities (depending on each boat’s itinerary) or just spend some time relaxing on board. Towards the end of the day the boat sets anchor for the night among the karst formations.  Dinner is served on board.

    - HANOI (B, L, -)

    Rising to the sound of lapping bay waters, we have time for an early morning dip followed by breakfast. Sitting on the upper deck, you can relax while taking in the breath-taking beauty of the rocky islands rising from the emerald water of the bay.

    On your return to Halong City enjoy a wholesome brunch as your boat wends through strange-shaped limestone rock formations. Upon disembarkation your driver will meet you for the transfer back to Hanoi.

    16h30 Arrive in Hanoi. Trip ends at your hotel around 17h00.

    Depart from your hotel at 8h30 for 30km drive to visit the Thay Pagoda - one of famous attractions in Ha Tay Province. It is also known as Thien Phuc Pagoda dedicated to Thich Ca Budha, Sakyamuni and 18 arhats. Continue driving to Duong Lam village, a purely agricultural village of the Northern Red River delta which still preserves many hundred-year-old houses.

    Upon arrival, visit Mong Phu temple in Mong Phu commune - the only hamlet whose original village entrance gate remains intact, dedicated to national heroes. Wander around the village to discover the daily life and farming working of Vietnamese peasants along the terrace with a stop in two ancient houses: the biggest ancient house was built 200 years ago and the most ancient house back to 400 years ago.

    After lunch and resting, visit Ngo Quyen temple and Phung Hung temple, places dedicated to two national heroes Ngo Quyen and Phung Hung. Then continue driving to visit Mia Pagoda (other hamlet in Duong Lam village), built in 15th century and admire 287 statues of all sizes, among with are famous sculpture such as the statue of Buddha in the Himalayas and the statues of the Eight Vajra Deities.

    *Note: As an optional extra once in Duong Lam this tour can be done by bicycle instead of walking & transfer (no extra cost). 

    Return to your hotel at 17h00 where the full day trip ends.

    DAY 9:

    This morning depart your hotel at 8h00 for the One Pillar Pagoda, founded by King Ly Thai To in 1049. This structure is one of Vietnam's most iconic temples. Close by is the mausoleum of the historic figure and father of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (viewed from outside; closed Mon and Fri and from Oct-Nov) and the former presidents house on stilts where he lived from 1958 to 1969, his former home illustrates the modesty of this Vietnamese revolutionary.

    Continue to picturesque West Lake and the sixth century Tran Quoc Buddhist Pagoda. From here transfer (or stroll along the lakeside) 700 meters to the nearby Taoist temple of Quan Thanh dedicated to Tran Vu, one of the principal deities in Taoism.

    At leisure for shopping until your transfer to Noi Bai Airport for one hour flight to Luang Prabang, Laos. Arrival and transfer to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is at leisure.

    DAY 10:

    After breakfast embark on a full day city tour with a visit to the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum (closed Tuesdays), which hosts a range of interesting artifacts then the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. Continue to the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham. 

    After lunch and break visit the Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures before we head out of the town to see the weaving villages of Ban Xiengkhong and Ban Xienglek. Return to the city for a visit to Wat Mai.

    Next, climb up the 328 steps to the top of Mt Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city at sunset and the Mekong River.

    Finish the day with a visit to the colourful night market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by local and hilltribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.

    Following breakfast we visit the morning Phousi Market, where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Laos is also known for its traditional crafts, and today you will visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou a Laoloum village and Ban Thapene, Khmu villages. Continue to the beautiful Khuang Si Waterfall with multi-tiered pools and cascading falls, ideal for swimming and relaxing or walk along the forest trails. Return to Luang Prabang.

    In the afternoon, we embark a wooden river boat for a cruise up stream on the Mekong River, which also gives us a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside, before reaching the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. Stop en-route to visit the village of Ban Xanghai, where they make the local rice wine. On return, we disembark the boat to visit traditional villages, and take a short drive to Ban Phanom, a village famous for its hand weaving.

    This morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Pakse. On arrival in Pakse, we drive south to Champassak for a visit to the fascinating pre-Angkorian ruins of Wat Phou (the UNESCO World Heritage Site), one of Southeast Asia's most dramatically situated temples. Explore these intriguing Khmer ruins which are perched at the base of Mount Phu Kao. 
    After lunch continue our journey by long tail boat to Siphandon where you spend the rest of the day to relax or to explore the islands.

    After an early morning breakfast, we head south by road and boat to Done Khone. Here we begin by re-tracing the French colonial-past at Ban Khone, where some old colonial houses still stand and glimpse the first Laos railway with its own locomotive. Continue to explore the area of the 4000 Islands by boat and visit the beautiful Liphi waterfall, also known as the Samphamith which forms a natural border between Laos and Cambodia.
    Return to Ban Nakasang and drive to the famous waterfall, Khone Phapeng waterfall - the largest waterfall in South East Asia, also known as the 'Niagara of the east'.
    Stay overnight in Siphandon.

    Following breakfast transfer back to Pakse for onward flight  to Siem Reap-Cambodia or exiting Laos overland from the Chongmek International checkpoint to Ubon Ratchathani Thailand.
