    ITINERARY


    DAY 1: HO CHI MINH CITY ARRIVAL


    Upon arrival to Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat International Airport) you will be picked up and transferred by private car through the city to your hotel for check-in (hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in). The buzzing southern city, formerly known as Saigon, is a tantalizing mix of old and new. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

    DAY 2: HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR (B, L, -)

     


    A full day city tour takes in Cholon, the Chinatown district, to discover the area’s markets, shops and the Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda - dedicated to the goddess of the Sea. Visit Vietnam's first traditional medicine museum, the FITO Museum, with an amazing collection of 3,000 items relevant to the development of traditional Vietnamese medicine. Implements used to prepare indigenous herbs and objects commonly found in traditional pharmacies can be seen in the galleries as well as ancient books and documents on traditional Vietnamese medicine. Head back to the city centre to visit Ben Thanh Market where an incredible display of fresh produce is offered. Simply stroll through the market exploring the variety of goods for sale.

    This afternoon visit the War Remnants where exhibition halls display imagery of both the French and 'American' wars or History Museum (choose which one you would most like to see) and the Reunification Hall, formerly known as the former Presidential Palace it was towards this modern building that North Vietnamese tanks seized on the morning of April 30 1975, as Saigon fell. This fascinating building is filled with history still fresh in the minds of many.

    Stroll (your vehicle will be available at all times) to the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), Continental Hotel, Opera House and City Hall. At the end of the afternoon head back to your hotel.

    DAY 3: HO CHI MINH CITY - CAO DAI - CU CHI - HO CHI MINH CITY (B, L, -)


    Depart Ho Chi Minh City at 08h00 in the morning for the drive to Tay Ninh. Leaving the city behind, the scenery changes to views of rice paddies, villagers drying noodles by the side of the road and other scenes typical to southern Vietnam. At Tay Ninh visit the Cao Dai Great Temple, with architecture that could have come straight from a Walt Disney fantasy and where all the major faiths of the world blend together in a unique religious cocktail.

    After lunch in a local restaurant visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels which consist of an incredible underground tunnel network constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters (Viet Cong) during both the French and American wars. Start the visit with the Ben Dinh or Ben Duoc sections of the tunnel. Here you can imagine what it was like to be a guerrilla complete with Russian Carbine rifles and AK 47’s.

    In the late afternoon journey back to Ho Chi Minh City. The rest of the evening at leisure.

    DAY 4: HO CHI MINH CITY - CAI BE FLOATING MARKET - CAN THO (B, L, -)

     
    This morning, leave bustling Ho Chi Minh for the 2 hour drive to the delta town of Cai Be. The local traditional wooden boats, vast emerald rice fields and lush back waterways; these are the things that make Cai Be such a desired destination.
    On arrival board your boat for a cruise of Cai Be floating market. Traders work the river and some have been living on these waters for generations. Produce at the market are hung on a pole in front of boats to attract customers and make it easier for people to see from afar what is on offer. Immerse yourself in a world of lush vegetation from the Mekong Delta as you pick through the fascinating and lively market, watching buyers bargaining for produce.

    After visiting the market continue to a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Return to the boat for the cruise to Tan Phong Island. Next, take a rowing boat along the maze of shady canals. Head for a local orchard to enjoy the local tropical fruits, and visit artisan workshops to see the handicraft producers of the village at work.
    Break for lunch at an orchard garden. Lunch will be local Mekong style serving specialties of the area. Enjoy traditional southern Vietnamese folk music. Afterwards, you will ride bicycles to villages, sightseeing and soaking up the rural ambiance or enjoy cooking class. If you prefer to relax, you can laze in a hammock.

    Following your cruise drive in the late afternoon to Can Tho where you will spend the night.

    DAY 5:
    CAI RANG FLOATING MARKET - CAN THO - CHAU DOC (B, L, -)


    Following breakfast take a leisurely boat trip to explore the picturesque tributaries of the Lower Mekong river (Bassac River), then cruise to the colorful Cai Rang floating market which bustles with wholesalers on big boats. Here, during the early morning market hours, larger sized boats anchor and create lanes that smaller boats weave in and out of. The main items sold here are fruit and vegetables and every boat has a long upright pole at its bow from which samples of the goods for sale are hung. The waterway becomes a maze of hundreds of boats packed with mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even floating pho vendors.

    Have you ever tasted Vietnamese vermicelli soup? Well, now go and see how it is made. Then wander around the village and meet the friendly local people and experience how to pass a "Monkey bridge" which is built by only one stem of bamboo. Visit the orchard garden and stop for lunch. Afterwards, depart for the three-hour drive to Chau Doc stopping en-route to visit Sam Mountain, an important pilgrimage site that is frequently visited by pilgrims from all over the Mekong Delta. There are dozens of pagodas and temples around Sam Mountain and reaching the peak is the highlight of the visit. The views from the top are spectacular (weather permitting) and you can easily look out over Cambodia. The rest of the evening at leisure.

    DAY 6: CHAU DOC - BOAT TO PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA (B, L, -)


    Pick up from your hotel to Chau Doc boat station (Con Tien floating restaurant) for the 5-hour boat ride to Phnom Penh. It’s an hour to the border (Vinh Xuong border) where you will clear visa formalities (one hour duration; one passport-size photo required for the Cambodian visa) before continuing the 3-hour boat ride into Phnom Penh, Cambodia (International floating port – 103 Sisowath Quay). Phnom Penh was once considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Orient, and despite its recent turbulent history it still retains a colonial charm as much of its original architecture remains. Cambodia’s capital is a bustling city majestically located at the confluence of the mighty rivers of the Mekong and the Tonlé Sap. Wide tree-lined boulevards and many colonial-era buildings reflect the glorious days and add to the charm of the city where Asian traditions meet Western customs in a fascinating way.

    Arrival and transfer from the pier boat to your hotel for check-in. The same afternoon, visit Royal Palace built by King Norodom in 1866 on the site of the old town, and was the last palace built during the French colonial period. The same complex houses the Silver Pagoda, named for the over 5000 heavy silver tiles that cover its floors. The treasures found inside include a solid gold Buddha encrusted and weighing 90kilograms and a small 17th century emerald and baccarat crystal Buddha and genocidal museum of Toulsleng (also known as S21). Return to your hotel.

    DAY 7: PHNOM PENH - SIEM REAP BY SPEED BOAT (B, L, -)


    After breakfast transfer to the pier boat for the 6-hour boat ride to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, pick up and transfer to your hotel for check-in. The same afternoon, take 15km drive to Pouk district in the West of Siem Reap town for a visit to the silk farm, a fascinating farm/workshop where you can see the entire silk creation process include growing the food for the silk worms, breeding the worms, silk extraction and refinement, traditional kit dying pattern creation and looming.

    On the way back, visit the West Baray (Baray Occidental) measuring 8km by 2.3 km which provided water for the intensive cultivation of lands around Angkor.

    DAY 8:
    SIEM REAP (B, L, -)


    Breakfast at hotel then start your tour with a visit to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. Angkor Thom was the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8m high wall, with each side of the city being 4km long, drawing a perfect square. You will enter the city through the ancient South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and four giants. On each side of the entrance path a row of 54 gods or demons is holding the sacred Naga snake.
    From here, continue to Bayon Temple in the exact center of the city. The particularity of this monument is the 54 towers with four faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also must-visits as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs.
    Next, depart on a very special sightseeing tour of the famous Angkor Wat. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing the Mount Meru, home of the gods. The divine residence of Vishnu, the King himself was to reside here after his death. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. Moreover, Angkor Wat is well known for the more than 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the temple. Construction is thought to have taken around thirty years of intensive labor. Today, Angkor Wat is figured on Cambodia's national flag as the temple symbolizes the soul of the Khmer people.

    Finish the day with Tuk Tuk ride (the locally common taxi in Cambodia) to get the whole view of Siem Reap town and its outskirt then continue to the local pagoda for blessing ceremony by Buddhist monks for healthy, happiness and safety etc ... during your holiday in Cambodia. Return to the hotel.

    DAY 9: SIEM REAP - DEPARTURE (B, L, -)


    Early this morning, travel to the “gem” of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srei which is best viewed in the morning light. Stop en-route to visit the Preah Dark village then the Banteay Samre Temple adorned with impressive relief’s depicting scenes of Vishunu as well as Krishna legends. Lunch at local restaurant.

    Afternoon, visit Roluos Group. The monuments of Roluos, which served as the capital of Indravarman I (reigned 877-89). Preah Ko erected by Indravarman I in the late 9th century dedicated by the King to his ancestors in 880. Bakong the largest and most interesting of the Roluos group temples, with his active Buddhist monastery just to the north of the east entrance. Lolei built on an islet in the center of a large reservoir (now rice fields) by Yasovarman I, the founder to the first city at Angkor. We will pay a visit the daily life of local people with the real experience of taking Ox-cart ride in the village. Transfer to Siem Reap airport for flight departure.
